In this week’s episode of Healthspan Academy, we have a back-to-back special of Lost Episodes interviewing Dr. Anthony Incognito, an Integrative Physiologist specializing in the autonomic nervous system in health and disease, and Dr. Laura Brown, a registered Naturopathic Physician and CEO of Southend Natural Medicine, as they talk about practical insights and tips in reaching peak performance, developing the right habits to increase healthspan and longevity, and much more.
In the first interview, I chatted with Dr. Laura Brown as she discussed the importance of a balanced diet in a healthy lifestyle, and explained how gut health and food are connected to overall health. We chatted about the use of common dietary models, such as the paleolithic, ketogenic, and carnivore diets. Laura discussed some practical tips for eating according to blood type, environment, and individual needs.
Dr Brown is a registered naturopathic doctor who practices functional medicine. She is the author of Amazon’s #1 Best Seller “Beyond Digestion”, has advanced training in pharmaceuticals, is a certified HeartMath and Gluten-Free Practitioner, and holds the designation of ADAPT Trained Practitioner from Kresser Institute, the only functional medicine, and ancestral health training company.
The second interview is with Dr. Anthony Incognito where we talked about the effects of ischemic preconditioning on exercise performance, the signs and cautions of overtraining, and tracking your well-being with heart rate and blood pressure variability. He discussed some of his research on chronic inflammation and a potential preventative means to reduce the risk of long haul COVID-19.
Anthony started his academic career with a Bachelor’s Degree in Kinesiology at the University of Toronto that was sparked with his experiences in competitive hockey. With a passionate interest in understanding the sympathetic nervous system in human cardiovascular regulation, he furthered his studies obtaining both a Master’s of Science degree and a Doctorate Degree in Cardiovascular Physiology from the University of Guelph. While currently a Post-Doctoral Fellow at the University of Calgary, Dr. Anthony continually engages in teaching, guest speaking at community health seminars, and participating in teaching education workshops.
